American racists have been on a tirade these past few days with a number of disturbing incidents making headlines.
A U.S. missionary was arrested in Kampala, Uganda after a video of the man assaulting and berating a Ugandan hotel worker went viral.
And in news from home, a man who dialed into a C-SPAN program called for the hanging of former President Barack Obama and called him a racial slur.
The missionary hurled racial slurs at the hotel workers, demanded that they follow his orders, and accused them of hating Jesus — all while sweeping objects off of tables and creating a general scene.
“Fuck Uganda. I’ve come to love Uganda, I’ve come to help Uganda, but Uganda hates Jesus through this son-of-a-bitch.” — the would-be missionary
He blamed his racist outburst on a stress-related illness.
And here in the United States, C-SPAN had to use the 7-second transmission delay to censor a caller who called for the execution of former President Barack Obama on the program Washington Journal.
Instead of calling in with a question per the norm, the man – identified as Christopher of White Haven, Pennsylvania – launched into a racist, birther tirade claiming that Obama is an illegal alien and calling him a racial slur.
The call came only weeks after another caller threatened to murder CNN hosts Don Lemon and Brian Stelter, a threat which was reported to the FBI.
These incidents are simply the latest in a disturbing trend of highly public racism that is reflective of the climate our president has so carefully cultivated.
Racists and white supremacists are running amok with the support of the government, and they need to be stopped.
