A female immigrant toddler died following her release from the Dilley Family Detention Center.
According to lawyer Mana Yegani, the child’s death was the result of a respiratory illness she contracted while in detention that did not receive sufficient medical care or attention.
The Dilly Family Detention Center has come under scrutiny in the past when the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) sued Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) for violating its own policies by detaining pregnant women at the center.
The incident was brought to light by the American Immigration Lawyers Association, which heard about the child’s death through an undisclosed source close to the family.
