Uber Under Fire

The popular ride-hailing company Uber is under federal investigation for gender discrimination.

Only one week after the director of human resources, Liane Hornsey, resigned over her handling of racial discrimination claims, the company is facing a federal lawsuit for gender discrimination.

Uber’s hiring practices and wages are under investigation by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission for evidence of gender-based discrimination.

This comes as CNN reports that even the gig economy fails to close the pay gap between men and women.

The report is based off a study conducted by economists from Standford University and the University of Chicago comprised of data collected from more than one million Uber drivers.

Researchers discovered that there was an average 7% hourly earnings gap between women and men.
